Applicants for Permanent Residence

As of January 1, 2015, to apply for permanent residence under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trade (FST) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) programs, you must first create an Express Entry profile and be invited to apply.

Note: In addition to the these programs, provinces and territories can use a portion of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to nominate Express Entry candidates. Get more information on the PNP.

For all other applications you must select the visa office that serves your country of nationality or the country where you have been legally admitted for at least one year.

Self-employed, Start-up visa, Quebec-selected skilled worker and PNP applications (except for the PNP applications mentioned above) must first be mailed to the Centralized Intake Office in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada.

All new Family Class applications must first be mailed to the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

In your application, you must select the visa office where your application will be processed. Please consult the chart below to find your visa office.

Applicants for Temporary Resident Visas, Study Permits and Work Permits

If you need to give biometrics (fingerprints and photograph), and you are applying on paper, please do not mail in your application. Submit your application in person to the visa application centre (VAC) nearest you. VAC staff will check that your application is complete and will confirm that you have paid the correct fees before you can give your biometrics. If you are applying from within the United States, submit your application online.

Otherwise, select the visa office that serves your country of residence, your country of nationality or the country where you have been legally admitted to learn of the options available to you.

Applicants for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD)

If you are a permanent resident outside Canada without a valid PR card and you need to return to Canada, you should submit your application for a travel document to IRCC through the Visa Application Centre (VAC) serving your location or, if there is no VAC, to the Canadian visa office that serves the country you are in.

Consult the chart below to find out where to submit your application.
