The Independent Electoral Commission of Cote d'Ivoire (CEI) on Thursday deplored the delay in the verification exercise of the the voters' register in the country. An official of the Commission, Bamba Yacouba, warned that as at Wedsneday and le ss than one week before the deadline for the submission of the provisional register, CEI was yet to receive the register from the organisation verifying mandated to carry out the job, the National Commission for the Supervision of Identification (CNSI).
He said that with time closing in on the exercise, CNSI was yet to set in motion, measures for the verification exercise.
He also said that the government was yet to release the 5 billion CFA F approved since 31 July with which the organisation would commence the exercise.
According to him, the delay has affected the compilation of data for the polls and therefore the display of the register for claims and objections.
Yacouba, however, asked all those involved in the process to work twice as hard with a view to meeting the deadline.
